Happy New Year!

A little late, because [insert awesome excuse here], but I finally managed to sit still at the computer for longer than a few minutes, so here’s the “enter 2012” entry :)

First things first, Happy New Year to all! Tribe or not, I wish you all the bestest, maximum health and a total absence of whatever wasn’t right in the years before this one! May it be the most successful, most productive, most satisfying, craziest, funnest, most extraordinary year ever‼

Or at least a couple of hundred percents better than the best year we’ve had so far ;)

佩思 周

Haven’t posted —nor written— anything in quite a while, I’m a bit rusty at this, but let’s see if I can get my shit together for long enough to reach the “publish” button ;)

Second things second, the reason for the delay in putting something up here —apart from the aforementioned [awesome excuse]— is that, for a change, this year I’m not gonna get back to work as soon as I used to. I’m prolonging the new year’s holiday by a couple more weeks, partly because I’m finally trying to take the “dude, you need to slow down!”s more seriously and partly because 2011 has been so —how can I put it?— shitty that I really need to do something crazier and funner than usual, to wash off all the fuck-ups I’ve been through. And to get some tan :)

I’m aching to ink something so, the truth is, I’ll actually be doing a couple of tattoos on the 6th and the 7th of this month. After that, I’ll be closing the studio again and go south for a while, swim a little, get sunburnt, have a year’s worth of cocktails and do whatever crazy shit comes my way… But, about this, a little later, in a separate entry ;)

Third things third (this is getting a little old, ain’t it?), this year I’m planning —or, at least, thinking about planning— to dust the pencils and notebooks and draw a little more; a lot more, actually. There’s inspiration and there’s urge, got them both and I need to bring them out on paper, so all I need to do is make more time for it. A little less time for tattooing, maybe a little less time for distraction —here’s one contradiction already— but it’s gonna be worth it; there’s a lot of stuff I want to draw and show, lack of time to do it would be the lamest excuse. But all this after I get back to Tōkyō, after I reopen the studio and after I realize the holiday’s over :) I’m gonna write about this too, a little later.

In the meantime, once again a Happy New Year to you all, and thanks for reading this and forgiving the clumsiness :)

There, I’ve made it to the “publish” button :p

佩思 周

Back to Work

I’m back ;)

Luckily, the ash cloud from Grímsvötn hadn’t reached Schiphol by the time my flight was scheduled —although Germans chickened out and grounded all flights that morning— so I was able to return to Tōkyō as planned and resume work on the 28th. As scheduled :)

sketchbook

It was a nice —short, but good— holiday; I tanned a bit, I drunk a lot, a ate a lot and I slept a lot. Wasn’t able to meet everyone I wanted to, but at least I managed to spend enough time with my family… and it was good.

And yes, to my surprise, I went through the customs at the Romanian airport without any annoyances!

Wasn’t so lucky at Narita though; the little piece of shit on duty went through my luggage, looked in my shoes and frisked me because, you know, a 2-hour stop in Amsterdam…

Anyway, that being said, now I really regret not taking the camera with me‥! I had plenty of opportunities to take some good pictures and I ended up ruining them because of the shitty lens on my mobile phone… Next time I’ll leave the laziness home and take the camera instead :)

So I’m back to work and everything is fine. Except for the fucking weather…

If you were expecting an e-mail from me, give me a day or two and I’ll send it.

Două Săptămâni în Vacanță, Începând… 3… 2… 1… Acum!

Hehe, vacanță schmacanță :)

stema pizdii

matematică simplă: S > (Y + E + A)

Two Weeks Off, Starting Now

I’m officially on holiday. The studio is closed, everything’s packed, a major back-up to do and a few more e-mails to write and I’ll be going offline until I reach București.

“improved” version of that shit

I’ll return to Tōkyō on May 26th but, in the meantime, I’ll be reachable —as usual— via e-mail, Twitter and, with a little luck, on Skype.

If they don’t charge too much for the shitty wi-fi at Schiphol, I’ll probably pop-in from there too before I change planes ;)

GraphicTribe.jp Takes a Break

As I was mentioning a while ago, I’m taking the graphictribe.jp domain offline —indefinitely— and moving everything I’ve had under it to tattoo.graphictribe.com.

[graphictribe.jp MMⅢ • MMⅪ]

The e-mail address —previously tattoo@graphictribe.jp— also changes to the .com one.

If you happen to have any links pointing to the Japanese site, please take a minute and rewrite them to point to the current address. You can also delete tattoo@graphictribe.jp from your address books, I’m not using it anymore.

That’s all for now. Thanks for reading this!

Enter 2011

Hey, tribe, how’s everybody? How were the parties, how are the hangovers? :)

I hope you all had a good time and are starting the new year in good spirits!

[pirates]

Here’s hoping this one is gonna be a really good year, all success and no failure, all health and no pain —OK, a little bit of pain, since I’m gonna keep tattooing ’til I go numb— and with none of the frustration and the anger we might’ve gone through in 2010.

Here’s hoping justice will prevail, freedom will survive, peace will come, governments will fall, religion will shut the fuck up and all the bad people will leave early.

New year resolution?

Keep doing what I’ve been doing, only with more passion and less fear of failure. Art is art and it’s gonna follow its path naturally, but I feel like I owe more, so here’s hoping I’ll muster the strength to give as much as I’ve been taking.

A happy new year to all!

Exit 2010

Stop for a second and imagine there’s no fucking “heaven”, it’s really easy if you try. No such thing as “hell” below us; above us, just the sky.

All the people living for today. Imagine that!

Then imagine there are no countries, no borders, no visas, no flags; it isn’t hard to do, is it? Nothing to kill or die for, no fucking stupid religion either…

Try to imagine all the people living life in peace.

I wonder if you can imagine no possessions, no jealousy, no envy, no need for greed or hunger… A brotherhood of man.

Imagine all the people sharing all the world.

You might say that I’m a dreamer —or a pothead, or whatever— but listen: I’m not the only one. And I really hope someday you’ll join us and the world will move, riot and live as one‥!

[Satan est Nomen Fortitudinis in Corde Ignavi]

How about that? Pretty weird, huh?

Might be, because what I was actually planning to say —before I got carried away— was that yup, the new year holiday is here, I’m done with work for this year, I’ll be closing the studio right after this and head for AnywhereICanGetADrinkWithoutTooMuchFuss, just around the corner of NurseINeedAFix. Or two. Or nine ;)

It’s been a… err… relatively good year but I hope the next one is gonna be A LOT better!

For everyone!

Except the governments, the mercenaries and the pigs, the big corporate leeches, the… ah, fuck it, I really need that drink :)

Thanks for reading, see you in 2011!

Japanese Site Relocation

To whom this may be relevant, I’ve moved the Japanese version of the main website to a new address, as follows: from graphictribe.jp to tattoo.graphictribe.com. Many reasons but —basically— because the Japanese hosting company sucked at pricing (while restricting memory space, broadband, number of e-mail addresses and so on, not to mention the spam “filters” were pure crap) and it’s been a major pain in the ass trying to find a way to move the ‘.jp’ ccTLD from my current registrar to somewhere else who wouldn’t force me to bundle the registration to yet another shitty hosting service; too much of a hassle right now, so I’m letting the domain expire and will deal with it later.

[tattoo machine : 3DCG rendering]

Hopefully, I’ve dealt with the relocation smoothly enough; there shouldn’t be any broken links or anything like that. Google’s already picking up the change, a month or so and the new URL will replace the old one.

Please update your links —no rush though, I’ll be keeping the domain online until February next year, while redirecting all requests to the new address— and, if you happen to hit a 404, let me know about it so I can fix the motherfucker ;)

Thank you!

This Site Is Not Facebook

Dear visitors, this site is not Facebook.

This is a website called “The Graphic Tribe Tattoos Weblog”. There’s absolutely no connection between Facebook and this site.

[This site is NOT Facebook]

To access Facebook right now, go to http://facebook.com/.

For future reference, type “facebook.com” into your browser address bar (that long, narrow field, at the top of this window, which right now happens to read “http://graphictribe.net/blog/2010/03/21/this-site-is-not-facebook”) and click the tiny icon —or button— labelled “go” or hit the “enter” or “return” key on your keyboard; that’ll make your browser take you to Facebook immediately. Also, you can do a Google search for “facebook” and click on the first result (that is, whatever comes up at the very top of the results page). That’ll also make your browser take you to Facebook in no time.

I recommend that you then save Facebook as a bookmark in your browser, which can be done by using the bookmark button (or the keyboard shortcut for the “Bookmark” menu item) when you are on the Facebook site.

Yeah…

P.S.: This site is not Facebook either.

Europe Trip • October 2009 (back number)

Long overdue —was supposed to do this a couple a months ago— but work kept piling up and spare time and surplus energy are raræ aves in this tribe’s hunting territories… So —I’ll spare you the blah-blah— here they are, 2 months late but freshly cropped, trimmed and what have you: a few photos taken in October, while visiting London and Paris.

Nothing out of the ordinary, but if you have a minute and nothing else to do right now, have a look :) Most of them speak for themselves so I’ll spare you the descriptions too :D

London

  • [London, Part Ⅰ :: on some bus]

  • [London, Part Ⅰ :: Hard Rock Café Ⅱ]
  • [London, Part Ⅰ :: Hard Rock Café Ⅲ]
  • [London, Part Ⅰ :: Hard Rock Café Ⅳ]

The restaurant/café, surprisingly small (you’d think “London, shit yeah, the biggest branch in the world”) and crowded, but the staff is fantastic, really friendly and cool people. Food is good too —not much different from what you get in any other HRC around the world— so this was probably the best part of my visit there. If I could go without having to visit London in the process, I’d definitely go again‥!

  • [London, Part Ⅰ :: subway]
  • [London, Part Ⅰ :: The Cleveland Hotel]

Paris

  • [Paris :: Eurostar]
  • [Paris :: Gare de Lyon]

Le Hard Rock Café

  • [Paris :: Hard Rock Café Ⅰ]
  • [Paris :: Hard Rock Café Ⅱ]

A lot bigger than the one in London —roughly similar to the one in Tōkyō but way smaller than the one in București— and deviating a little from the “traditional” looks but, once again, the staff makes up for whatever might be wrong with the building itself. Waiters singing along with whatever was on the TV, prompt service and all that. I’ll definitely go again!

Five days of rainy, windy, grey coldness, flipping birds at any CCTV camera I could spot, trying all kinds of foods and beers, shopping and cursing the 2012 olympics (actually, the fucked up traffic jams caused by the construction works in preparation for the olympics)…

Then two days in Paris, where I’ll definitely go again (it was already my second time there). Romanian gipsies are a pest and it didn’t feel good to find them leeches there after I just had enough of them in București, but even so, Paris is a nice place. Good weather too :D

Then one more week in London; better weather this time, more bird flipping at the surveillance motherfuckers, more beer and plenty of walking around… All in all, not as bad as I imagined but I don’t think I’ll visit again. At least, not until they do something about that piece of shit airport they’ve got there in Heathrow :)

Still around? Thanks for reading!

Oh, and before I forget, fuck that scumbag Bono! Not that it has anything to do with my trip to Europe, but hey, off-topic is the new black and that piece of shit deserves a “fuck Bono” every 2–3 sentences written…

Enter 2010

Happy New Year, tribe!

I hope you all had a good time, actually I hope you’re still having a good time right now! What’s a good party without an even better aftermath? :)

[MMX, first snow]

I’m still on the frontline —there’s still a bit of drinking to be done before I can call it a day— so I’m gonna keep this short, but I wanted to wish you all the bestest, maximum health and an avalanche of success after success after success after success after success […] after succes, thank you for being the awesome tribe you are and voice my hopes for peace and freedom not only for the year that just started, but for all the years to come.

Fuck the government, fuck the church, we can do without ’em! All we need is to stay united and keep our spines upright.

And boycott Sony et al., but that’s another story for when I’m not TUIing :D

Exit 2009

A few hours to go and 2009 is past, “last year”, “a year ago”, “the good old times” and so on… It’s been a really good year —it would severely cut into my new year’s eve drinking time if I started to enumerate now all the good stuff that has happened— and I can only hope 2010 will be at least as good‥!

[寅]

To all who have to work tonight, hang in there and —you know— loaf whenever you can… maybe even get a drink or two! “Drinking while on duty is a bad thing” is nothing but a scarecrow, a stupid rule made by self-righteous bosses who have never had to spend the new year’s night at work ;)

To all who party, have a great one and don’t forget to drink one for me too! I’ll definitely be drinking at least one for you. Each of you :D

All the best wishes from the graphic tribe, and a happy new year!

Back to Tokyo

Back to Tokyo in one piece, trying to catch up with the inbox, fighting the jet lag and getting ready to resume work.

[London, Tower Bridge]

A bunch of stories to tell, a few photos to show, but first I gotta prepare the studio for reopening —which means mostly that I have to do a thorough cleaning and get my tools ready.

A post or two coming up within the next couple of days but, for now, just a quick “I’m back” ;)

Third Day in București • Hard Rock Café

Third day in București. The plan was for a night at the Hard Rock Café in the Herăstrău Park, but —I don’t sound surprised, do I?— smoking is not allowed inside and the nights are already too cold to be spent on an open terrace… So I ended up having a fantastic Bloody Mary and some food, taking a couple of pictures and then going some place else for the real party ;)

  • [Hard Rock Café București • 1]
  • [Hard Rock Café București • 2]

Nevertheless, I can definitely say this one is the best branch I’ve visited so far! Huge —around 100~150 seats outside and at least 300 or so inside— by far, the biggest I’ve seen; a lot bigger than the one in Tokyo, way bigger than the ones in New York, Rome or Amsterdam. Same kind of interior decorations —lots of “famous” guitars on the wall— same kind of menus and, I assume, similar prices, really good service. For some reason, they had Shakira’s leather pants among the trophies too, but hey! music genres are a technicality nowadays and they managed to preserve the shapes quite well, so no complaint here :D

It was a short visit —fuck the E.U. for their stupid “war on tobacco”— but it was good and I have the satisfaction of being able to scratch București out of my Hard Rock Cafés tour list ;)

[at Cafaneaua Actorilor]

The rest of the night was all about meeting old friends, catching up a little, trying to figure out who got fatter, balder… or drunker :)

[at Cafaneaua Actorilor]

Awesome night, harsh hangover :) I’ll be unplugging for most of the weekend, but I’ll post some more before I leave for London.

Thanks for reading ;)

Second Day in București

Second day in București. Awesome weather, delicious food, un-fucking-believably tasty wine and you know what? The city actually looks a lot better than I thought I’d ever see it..!

Alright, my internet connection is pure shit —I have to do most of the work offline and then hunt for a hotspot where I can transfer more than a kilobyte per century— but otherwise, it’s all good ;)

[Dali in București]

A little bit of FUD, whatever was left in my memory about the visit two years ago and a shitload of the stress I accumulated on my 21-hour long trip made me bitch about… pretty much everything for a while, but then I went out and walked around the center of the city for a couple of hours. And got surprised, pleasantly, by the way the city has changed in such a short amount of time! Lots of new shops, open terraces, even tattoo shops, the roads are a lot better —although the traffic almost beats the nightmare back in Tokyo— and the streets are cleaner, there’s still a lot of green all over the place… What can I say? Next time I won’t criticize before I actually see it with my own eyes :)

I’m actually starting to re-like my city…

And on top of it, there’s even a Hard Rock Café!!! Who would’ve thought, Hard Rock Café in București?!? Wow, I gotta go there, like, tonight!!! Priority number one, and the camera goes with me, so next time I manage to connect properly, I’ll show you some pics too ;)

[Dali & Pepe, in București]

Surprisingly, I don’t miss Tokyo yet but no, no worries, I’m not gonna move back here ;)

Gotta go have some more of that wine now!

Thanks for reading!

Off to Europe

Last day in Tokyo. Right after this I’m gonna unplug most of the electric stuff —won’t be here for three weeks, I wanna be able to sleep without thinking about electrical surges, fires and all that shit— close the studio and head home.

Need to pack, unpack, pack again, re-unpack and the pack my stuff, make sure I don’t forget anything and then try to get some sleep; tomorrow I’ll be up really early, gotta get to the airport in time to find the best seat —you know— that one near the wings, where I can stretch my legs properly and move around without bothering anybody ;)

[eye candy]

Did I mention I fucking hate flying? It’s not the fear of flight —I don’t have it, I’m a brave boy— it’s the whole bullshit I have to go through at the airports so those fuckers can make sure I’m not gonna endanger the flight with a pencil or a nail clipper, and then there are the poor conditions on the airplane: narrow seats, shitty food, bad air, idiotic TV, no smoking for 12 hours, most likely no internet connection and so on… Out of the 23 days I’ll be away, almost two whole fucking days wasted.

Anyway, everything else is pink and peachy. Haven’t managed to send out all the drawings I was supposed to, but at least I zeroed my inbox (it’s back to “12 unread messages” as I write this, but I’ll resume the Sisyphus role a little later) ;)

So I’m outta here, see you all in three weeks!

Oh, I CAN HAZ FORGOTTED: I set up a Twitter account; mostly for when I’m away, but if it picks up I’ll probably keep it.

That’s it for now; thanks for reading this!
